Calgary - Jack Singer Concert Hall
TICKETS - Ticketmaster - 403-777-0000

“STEP ASIDE, VAGINA MONOLOGUES, IT’S THE MEN’S TURN!”

It’s time to let the men talk about the relationship they have with their private parts! CockTales, the comedy phenomenon which opened in 2001 to a three week sold-out audience. This critically acclaimed stage act makes its triumphant return to Calgary

Ground Zero Theatre (GZT) and Hit & Myth Productions (H&M) are proud to present CockTales, an evening of penis-centered monologues and entertainment. Directed by Ron Jenkins, these 14 monologues about the penis are hilarious, insightful and totally EXPOSED. The cast releases the goods on that part of the male anatomy that is always getting them into trouble!

Ground Zero have scored a bull’s eye…a refreshingly honest exercise…these guys should think with their dicks more often
– Martin Morrow, The Calgary Straight

An honest and very, very funny look at the relationship between men and the male appendage… Smart, articulate and very, very funny…for both men and women
– Bob Clark, Calgary Herald

Look beneath the title what you will find is sheer vulnerability…[CockTales] exposes a searing range of embarrassment, shame, insecurity, pain, suffering and sheer poignancy….yet sensitive and hilarious
– Jennifer Partridge, Calgary Herald

Any witty play on words one could imagine in regards to the male genitalia are laid bare, leaving the audience roaring with laughter and compelled to keep their eyes on the stage
– Liz Field, The Weal Weekly Newspaper

Social norms are flipped on their ears in Heterophobia - a tall glass of gay with a twist of straight. Grant comes home for a visit after a tough break-up, with a secret that gets heavier by the second. As she struggles to hold on to her hidden desires, her Moms woo her with waffles, clean underwear, and the prospect of settling down and being artificially inseminated. But as Grant’s secret becomes too big to hold onto, she is forced to make a choice about revealing who she really is.

Mill Woods United Church (15 Grand Meadow Crescent, Edmonton)
Special staged reading – one night only

Discussion with cast and playwright
after the show
Tickets: Adult $10, Youth/Students/Seniors $5, Family $25

“People laughed, they cried, they were riveted. Pam provokes her audience without alienating them: a great feat. She takes on rather controversial subject matter, handles it with grace and humour, finds depth of character and creates a new perspective on an old argument. Her compassion and ability to ask questions, rather than judge or give answers is a great strength.”
-Lucia Frangione, Actress and Playwright

“A terrific satiric premise, which makes for wonderful humour and a pointed but delightful attack on prejudice. The dialogue is fresh and original, a real pleasure!”
-Kathleen Oliver, playwright and theatre critic for the Georgia Straight

Heterophobia premiered in Calgary at the 2009 IGNITE! Festival with Sage Theatre, garnering the biggest audiences in the festival's history!

For interviews with or questions for the playwright, contact Pam Rocker (pamrocker@mac.com)

Beautiful Thing
Feb 10 to 20, 2010 at 8:00pm
Walterdale Playhouse (10322 83 Ave NW, Edmonton)

www.walterdaleplayhouse.com

www.twitter.com/walterdaleplays

Jonathan Harvey’s tale of two boys, who, in the middle of the dreary, bleak setting of a London council estate, discover sparks of life and love, with 'Beautiful Thing'. Enveloped in a simple, beautiful story about a myriad of relationships – family, romance and friendship, we meet Jamie and Ste who discover the different levels of love and trust.

Jamie has a crush on classmate Ste. When Ste is badly beaten by his brother, he stays over with Jamie and his mother Sandra. In the absence of a third bed, Jamie and Ste begin their journey sleeping top-to-toe. Meanwhile Jamie’s mother, Sandra, begins a tenuous journey with a troublesome neighbour, Leah.

“For me, 'Beautiful Thing' is about love; a realistic love,” says Justen Bennett, Director of 'Beautiful Thing'. “Those simple, small loves that you have. This is a story set against a harsh, urban background with working class characters that are proud, stubborn, and not always nice to one another. The love in this play doesn’t inspire a dramatic change, but brings a small spark of life and hope to people who don’t always have a lot of hope. 'Beautiful Thing' reminds us, even in the harshest of surroundings, how simple, pure, and tender love can be.”

Justen Bennett is an emerging local director, actor, and sometime playwright. Most recently, he wrote and directed 'Addition: An Unconventional Love Story' at the 2009 Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival.

"Jonathan Harvey's endearing, lopsided smile of a comedy about a boy who falls for the boy next door"--New York Times
